  • Any advice? - Low Newton by the Sea

    Hi
I'm new to the forum and wonder if anyone any advice about fishing Newton by the Sea. I'm having a holiday there and would be really grateful for any advice on
    - best time of tide to fish it
    - best baits to use
    - what I could expect to catch there
    - how heavy do I need to have my tackle

Thanks in advance for anything that you can tell me.

if you head abit further south to dunstanburgh castle you'll get pollock and maccy on a calmer day although your fishing off the rocks so i would say have a look at the area before fishing it. Youve also got embleton bay which should throw up some flatties.

Good for wrase coalies and codling best fished on flat calm seas during the summer on medium to big tides fish the skeers 2hrs either side of low the hole area is heavy kelp beds. 35/40lb main line 50/60lb hook snoods rotten bottoms best bait is crab, fish can be caught anwhere for right out to a short lob just behind the kelp beds.If your fishing the skeers on the south side of the haven watch the tide as it floods in behind you and will cut you off

Thanks for the great advice lads. I remember getting stranded on the Emblestones at the south of the haven when I was little and my dad having to wade to the beach with me on his shoulders. I thought it was great but he wasn't laughing.
