  • Fishing shields pier

Hi people my first post on here as only joined the other nite

I was just wondering if anyone could give my some advice on places to fish on the pier that arnt as snaggy as i am a predominant beach angler and this is going to be my first real attempt at the pier , i know i am going to lose some kit but thats not something new so any advice would be greatly taken onboard.

    Welcome mate.
42 to 44 marks at ss pier fishing seaward are probably best for least gear loss but you need a half decent chuck to clear the snags. Infact at high water you can fish seaward all the way up to these marks. Also the end but best on an ebbing tide or you can get swept around. River wise there's before the first gate and also the wheel (just before the end)

Try 42-44 mark... its on the seaward side like Gordon has already said.... 75yd cast will clear the snags mate, usual fish... flattys, whiting etc at this time of year. The south east corner of the pier will fish aswell but a bit more snaggy.... I would avoid the wheel area unless you know the pier well. Plenty of decent fishing though... best of luck mate

Yer mate, maybe I shouldn't have said the wheel, but I have seen guys fishing there for a sesh without getting hooked up but like you say they're experienced and know exactly when and where, come to think of it one of the guys was using them lift leads plus a saltist

Lol Gordon... I have fished the wheel on the low tide up.... decent enough untill the tide flow is blasting through.... 100yds will see you onto clean ground but maybe not the place for a newbee to seafishing. From the catch reports looks like he had a decent session at Blyth anyway lol.... ignored all our advice haha
