  • reel up or reel down?

What difference to the cast does the reel position make?

  • #2
Reel down slows the cast down so you've got more time to get into position to smash it esp with the longer 14ft rods nowadays.

It also gives you more leverage in punch pull stage.

Massive distances can be done with both reel up or down though.

I think its just a matter of personal choice, what ever you feel most comfortable with.I swapped a couple of years from reel up to reel down and it did add a few yards, but then again I catch just as many fish just lobbing the bait out as I do when I blast the bait as far as possible!
You'll get lads who will say reel down is best but also lads who'll say you cant beat reel up.Its down to the individual at the end of the day.

Reel down for me,gives you more pumping power on your retrieval & has never affected the distance on my cast.what ever you feel comfortable with is the way to go.

reel down also effectivly makes your rod longer, so softening the action.

I fished for years with reel up and got a good few birds nests but since i changed to reel down a couple of years back the nests are few and far between and put a few yards on to my distance ( i can now cast a Big 60yds with ease )
