  • Float trace length?

So I've got myself a float rig, it's said to put a 10-12 foot trace on it..surely if I'm fishing from a pier this is too much?

I was thinking more like 4 foot, or am I completely wrong?

It depends on the depth of the water you're fishing into and the depth at which the fish are feeding.

Vary the depth the float fishes at with a sliding stopknot and bead.

I was fishing at 15 feet length off cliffs recently, catching nothing. I lengthened to 20 feet and started getting takes.

Have say 1-2ft hooklenth, then have a stop knot 10ft up the line that you can adjust till you find where the fish are feeding.

I'm wondering if it means 10-12 lb rather than feet..I'm out the house so can't check if I need glasses

Think it means fish the bait 10-12ft under the float.

keep adjusting the depth till ya nearer the bottom ,if ya float is lying on its side then ya touching the bottom ,adjust stop knot so ya shallower ,nowt taking try further up
