try different lures or retreives when fish are being picky a change of colour or movement normally works.

I don't think that you are doing anything wrong, as you know fish are finicky things.

I had the same trouble on holiday this year. Using a bubble float with a small eddystone eel the bass were chasing but turning at the last minute.I was told to use "pearl sidewinder sandeels" these are 4" 10 gram and were deadly.

I think it's just a case of trying different spinners and techniques.

If you're targeting one species it's best to do your homework. There's lots of videos and info online which will help.

      Tightlines.

you will need to put in a lot of leg work if your going to get a bass on the north east coast then your going to need the right lures and thay dont come cheap.

you will need a few top water and sub-surface lures to get the best out of any bass in the north east.

I use rapala maxraps and various poppers and have had fish on them. Try varying your speed. I also find that the bass sometimes hit the lure with their flank then come back and take it. I think they must try to stun their pray before taking it. I stop retrieving if i just get a hit and they usually come back and then your on. You could also try holographic sandeels fished with a carp controller float with a long leader on varying your speed (cheeper than plugs). You have obviously found a mark with bass and that is the main challenge, just keep putting the hours in and you'll get one, Good luck.
