  • Length of leader - rock fishing

My first proper post here since returning to sea fishing and joining NESA

Does it matter how long the leader is? I was thinking it might reduce the number of snags. Has anyone tried it especially on the kelp with any success? cheers elbob.

As a guide you want 2 rod lengths so that the rod has recovered by the time the knot passes through...

On the rocks kelp i personally would go for 30lb straight through and ditch the leader

I tend to use them quite long - 3-4ft or so for the hooklength when fishing in heavy kelp, tied about 4-5ft above the sinker.

Ah makes sense... Yeah thats what id go for gforce.

Also if you arent already switch to pulley rigs which pulls the lead up off the bottom when a fish is hooked

Thanks lads, yes I use pulley rigs, but not sure of the length to make them. I'll try 3ft.
