Whitby advice requested

Hi

Off to Whitby for a weeks holiday on saturday and would appreciate any advice on marks I could fish at various states of tide.

Last year I tried the pier (north side of harbour) and caught a few mackerel but you were only allowed to fish from the lower level and there was no space to cast for bait fishing.

Would really like to target Plaice if possible and an early codling naturally would be a bonus.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

iv heard the south pier throws out some nice codling but take plenty of leads
for plaice try sandy beaches around the area
if that fails go to the magpie chippy best in whitby

Thanks lads. Is the south pier the one where the bridge across is broken? I guess you can fish off the concrete bit that runs parallel to the shore into the sea. Is that the idea? Good call about the magpie too, will certainly be trying a portion.

The piers are east an west, the west being on the new side or north as you lads call it.West pier will thro up macky at this time of year plus a bit of pollack if you float fish and the normal flatties,but will be busy during the day.East is a different ball game rough ground not sure what it will give up during the summer months but there is a cut off point near the start of the pier on big tides so be careful when going on.Have a nip in Whitby angling the lad's will give you all the info you need.Hope this helps.

cant disagree with that the magpie is lush mate!!!! sorry had to mention that!!

Thanks for the help lads, put a short report on the other page. Just wanted to report on some very dodgy behaviour on the pier 'though. Kids running round with baited hooks flying, sinkers bouncing back from the pier supports after casting wildly from the centre of the deck, there was even some lads fishing illegally from the top deck and pelting those below them with fish guts, with the inevitable swearing, threats and so on. Truly shocking and aso dangerous with kids jumping around the parapet and ladders outside the barrier. One guy caught a Pollock around 5lb which naturally drew a crowd of anglers and watchers, then proceeded to try and despatch it by repeated punches to the face. I stepped in with a "priest" but not before many onlookers expressed their shock. I would not be suprised at all if fishing were stopped on there. Roll on winter.
