Big tides either side of low/high water.
You can fish all the way through on small tides.
Sept-oct best months for codlings.
A good chuck usually gives you a big advantage for codlings but not so necessary for coalies or whitings. It also avoids the snags. The 'five plums!' Northumberland sea league champions.

Doesn't matter what colour the water is on the surface, according to one of the divers I spoke to when they were fixing it up a couple of years ago it was like bisto on the surface but he told me it was crystal clear out in the channel.

last of the ebb & first of the flood single hook casting as far as you can with crab, baits don't have to be big either i prefer a 1/0 or 2/0 hook. Later on in the winter (dec jan) try lugworm, ragworm also fishes well when the ragworm are spawning in the river (you can see the worms swiming in the shallows and being washed up on the middens beach)
The river also fishes best during daylight the fish seem to stop feeding as it pulls in dark although it can fish well at times during darkness, a lot of freshwater/floodwater in the river also puts the fish offLast edited by bandit; 15-08-2012, 09:48 PM.
