    welcome to the forum .
do u fish for mackerel with feathers only ? u can try bait fishing with a pretty simple set up and try for whiting and flatties . u can always go to the river nearny urself say the royal quays or st peters basin ...

This is not a straight forward answer more advise on where to go next the summer fishing is finishing usually about end of August and then it's the winter cod/codling, whiting, coal fish etc etc bottom feeders mainly a good idea would be to buy a copy of the sea angler and total sea fishing as they have seasonal articles in them as to what, where and how eg tackle rods reels lines rigs then after doing your home work abit have a walk along blyth pier once all the makeral fishers Have gone (being polite and not putting everybody in the knacker head box) you will see lads using bigger rods heavier line(stronger) and 5/6oz gripper weights bait fishing look around and have abit crack the rest is a lifetime learning curve but depends how far into it you want to get but defo look at the magazines

Ps and take note of baits and conditions that people post and which areas they fish. Also always always take enough warm waterproof clothing even when catching nowt still be warm n comfy if you've got it you can take it off but if you haven't got it you can't put it on if you follow my drift.

ive only been to blyth pier a handful of times, using an old rod and reel a friend had spare. i was using lures. tinsel lure, 4 hooks hockeyes or something. i have bought off ebay a shakespere mackerel rod and reel which came with a couple of feathers and spinners and 18lb line on the reel. i pretty much know nothing about this to be honest. i dont even know where i am allowed to fish without a license. all advice will be very much appreciated... royal quays and north shields is close enough to me, but i dont have a clue about permission to fish there or anything, thanks.

cheers iva, i will ask the lads on the pier when i go, just i know nothing about fishing and i dont want to look like a tool if you know what i mean, by asking stupid questions, but also dont want to pick up any bad habits. i will get some mags tomorrow and also get a few books from the local library on my day off. cheers.

plenty of lads on here willing to help, sea angling magazine is a good place to start alan yeats starts his winter codling/cod tactics etc in next months edition and runs for a few weeks, this months edition is pretty good to.

i know a couple of lads have already offered you to tag along and your more than welcome to come with me, i live in north shields and i have a week off next week so if you wana meet and have a few hours on the river or somewhere i dont mind.

i know what its like knowing nothing.
