  • Leader knot

What would you recommend for a knot to attach 60lb shock leader to 15lb main line?
Been using what I know as a standard leader knot with 3 turns but it ends up very bulky. Never had one break 'though.
Also is it worth using a rotten bottom on SSP. Lost a few rigs last night and its a pain breaking above the leader and having to rig the lot up again.
    Thanks for any help.

I normally use a single knot in ur shock and four turns on ur leader but give the shock a good old tight pull first then trim close as poss, drop of superglue does wonders too

          knot

i use a ordinary leader knot but the smallest knot i have seen is burn the end of the 60lb nylon let it cool and you will have a blob on the end then tie a whipping knot i dont know how strong it is

uni knot - overhand knot in shock leader, put the main line through and do a grinner knot with the main line and slide it down so its snug with the leader knot.

One of the quickest knots to tie but isnt very strong.

I usually use a spider hitch loop in the mainline and then do a slim beaty knot onto that which is fairly strong but a bit bulky.

the albright as mentioned earlier is half the size of the regular grinner/hitch.

i only use 3 turns. weve had some big fish and this knot doesnt fail.

best to practice it at home until you feel confident with it.

watch out for any slip as you tighten up as this will damage the line right near the knot. if that happens, best to re tie it.

Thanks lads, gonna give some of those alternatives a go. What do you reckon to the idea of using a rotten bottom section in the rig for the snaggier parts of SSP. Worth the effort or should I just cast far and wind in quick ?

My first post here. Have been using the Albright knot for a while and it's easy to tie and strong. Seems to collect less weed too.
