I believe they do have to fund themselves but there is funding out there to support talented anglers within sports governing body pathways and/or international squads, it's very hit and miss which areas its available, some local authorities and county sports partnerships have this funding which can support travel, bait, equipment, comp fees etc but like I say it is a bit of a postcode lotto at the moment
            Thanks

In order to fish for England you not only have to be a very good angler but a wealthy one to boot!. There are many Anglers who are without question skilled enough to fish for their country but don't have the money to fund it,indeed here in the NE we have some top notch match anglers who would be worthy of a try out and I'm sure there are many others country wide who are equally talented. Funding IS a huge problem and until a solution is found it does not matter how good you are....... if you can't afford it your out!.

My son Arran has entered for it,he is a canny angler for 14 years old,not so much for a place in the England team as we could not possibly afford it but it is a good opportunity to show what talent there is in the north east......and a chance to win some tackle vouchers which will save me forking out....I would be interested to hear about funding available to help young anglers,is there any funding available or is it a case of you need a few bob to progress in the competetive england sea fishing scene regardless of age

I agree, it's an expensive gig but like I say there is some sporadic funding out there, just need to know where to look for it. It is something the Angling Trust are looking at but it's not something that will happen overnight. This comp will give Chris Clark a chance to see our top anglers but we need them to be there on the day, if anyone was of the standard Chris is looking for I would personally turn over every stone to help find funding if it was required!
Aside from Chris visiting there are some good prizes to be won and rather than giving them tackle the already have or maybe better, it's gift vouchers so they can get what they want.
We need more anglers to come along to make it a success so please tell any anglers you know, they dont have to be top notch anglers to take part, Chris coming along is a bonus but it's a comp for the youngsters to have a good day and maybe win some good prizes worth having
                Thanks

                  Hi,
Looking forward to seeing you and Arran on the day, I don't have exact info at the moment about what funding is out there but if the situation arose that required it I would make the time to search and see what there was. As has been said its expensive and this can make it prohibitive and having a few quid will help but that wouldn't and shouldn't exclude anyone from being able to represent their country if they are good enough and want to.
                  Thanks
                  Ben
