  • eel slaughter

    as you know it is illegal to catch and take eels from our rivers and estuaries, anglers have been compalining to the Environment Agency about some of our european visitors taking them by the bucketfull, and very little seems to have been done, although the EA say patrols have been out. I have been in touch with them and they would like anglers help so;
if you see any illegal catching and taking of eels, especially around the British Airways Jetty please ring the Environment Agency on their hot line 0800 807060 and report the incident IMMEDIATELY and they might just pop along, their office is minutes away, and have a look.

we have the same problerm in hartlepool with these people taking every single fish, regardless of size or species. i even heard of one keeping a lesser weever even after he was told it could harm him.

ive seen them take any fish and instantly take off its head, gut and descale it before re casting out.

we tell them that every fish they are taking is undersize buy they just pretend not to understand.

becasue nearly everyone who fishes reckons they are rock, why not just beat them up?

Its pretty difficult to target Flounders on crab without catching Eels most lads are using small wide gape hook ( 2`s and 4`s) and Eels tend to get lipped hooked, all Eels Caught are recorded as 25cm so no measuring just unhooked and released ..

I know these eastern europeans are breaking the law,but at least they do eat the fish they take.
I have seen plenty of local anglers fishing the estuaries catch an eel then just stamp on it,rip the hook out then kick it back.
The same happens on all our piers with the macky. Some numpties catch a load, leave them lying all over the deck then dump them back because they can,t be bothered to carry them.
You never see any of the eastern europeans doing this.

well said man, ive seen club anglers rip hooks outta flwenders, leave whiting dying on the side, and bash cods heads on concrete.

its food, they eat it, whats the difference?

I think Alans opening comment sums up what is wrong with it!

Just as it is illegal to kill and eat our swans, which is another problem that seems to have surfaced over the past 10 years!

just like we are catching and eating all the cod in the sea, eels are an endangered species like the cod and henceforth it is illegal to catch and take them.

sadly along with carp, geese all manner of wildfowl, every living crustacean of whatever size they find, soon our visitors will have cleaned out of lakes, rivers, rock ends etc as they have done in their own country, these are major problems.

                          Totally agree.

Read of Eastern European lakes and ponds void of anything that swims.

I would hate to see this happen here.

How do you kill your cod?
