I'm sure Alan reported on a young lad catching one last summer off one of the piers, so there's probably a few swimming around....I'd guess this was probably a victim of "natural causes" rather than discards, as they fetch a tidy price at fish markets.

ha ha, ok, here we go,
a friend of mine, kev common, he`s from prudho, was fishing the hole in the wall, he got sick there, so walked along the beach towards the pier.
on his way to the pier, he found this strange fish on the beach.
kev`s lived a good life, dined in posh nosh houses, anyway, when he get`s on the pier, he explain`s to us that he found a dory on the beach.
with that, a young lad packed up and left...........!
the next week mr charlton reports 1 getting caught on blyth beach....!
                      bit of a coincidence or...........?

Ha ha - hadn't heard that one! The one that I was thinking of came from down south somewhere - might have been Roker Pier - but I'm sure that one was properly witnessed, caught while macky fishing or something. I'm sure Alan will be able to recall better than me...

I buy them now and again from Latimers and as far as I know they are caught local. Best eating fish I know and worth every penny in my view.
