anyone know how much money was raised to go towards the fire damage to the pier?
We'll let everybody know when the collections are done and promised cash is in, should be in the next two or three weeks.
I'll put up a link to the "just giving" page tomorrow morning.
No matter what the total, large or small, it will let the authorities know that we do care about our venues, and will take some responsibility for the upkeep of these venues.

Tony how long is the just giving page open for, will put it in papers for anyone who wants to donate, maybe get a big chunk from the anglers that caused the damage
i was not going to talk about it but feel i have to say if some one came forward in our open and accused someone of cheating i think our committee would all agree that it should be look in to as it would be the right thing to do all concerned would be spoken to then a decisions would be made.

I'm sure the ASAC committee would have investigated the claims made by Codman had he told them on the day but judging by his sensitive reply he never actually bothered to do so, instead he chose to whinge about it on this forum but said nowt when it really mattered 🤔
Trouble is a lot of the time lads dont know whos weighed what in all the hustle of a weigh in and only seeit when the prizes are given out. Then it takes a brave man to stand up and accuse someone of cheating in front of a crowd.I dont know anything of what Codman saw in this match but i know of a fair few occasions where skullduggery has gone on.There will always be cheats unfortunately.

40 odd years ago witnessed a similar thing ! Fished next a group of five known good anglers, four blokes one women, never saw her catch anything, but at weigh in she took ladies prize with about four pounds, my brother had an 11 lb'r, which they saw, and took a top prize...they just played the rules for maximum gain, the top ladies prize was substantially better than the low weight would have generated in the main match....but we couldn't prove anything. and they were only yards from us ?
One of the reasons I only fish the odd sea match...for fun...expecting very little!
Thing to do is combine all the prize list ??? Minimise potential for manipulation ?
It's just a shame that all of the effort that goes in to organising and running these competitions is overshadowed by stuff like this. Just pleased that a lad from the host club took one of the top prizes.
If any of the Amble committee read this could I suggest a rule change for next year which may or may not help the situation. I suggest that the top junior or lady gets a choice to take either the junior or ladies prize OR a prize from the table but not both.
Because of my back problem I haven't fished or even been a club member for a couple of years now, so the following points are my own personal views, nothing to do with Amble SAC
Rules clearly state that any disputes must be mentioned to a committee member before the end of the weigh in. No one ever does. Only after the event do we get the "I know someone who was cheating" brigade spouting off.
Everyone these days carries a phone capable of taking photos and videos. Where is the visual proof of any cheating ? None has ever been forthcoming.
So...if anyone has proof and doesn't report it, what does that make them ?
