to be honest imo brake blocks are just as good on these type of reels especialy the 30.
other prob i find when magging reels up the ajustment knob can be annoying as they stick out somewhat and get in the way when reeling in thats what i find anyway.
i know you mention the diawa slosh 30 but the penn 535 which is same size as slosh 30 has a factory magnetic control system already fitted.did you know panel pins comes in diff sizes ?

I have my slosh 30 magged mate bought the conversion kit from spottydog think it was £16
Yes it does make a difference i can cast alot further now that its magged
The down side is that you loose the ratchet
I also DONT think it gets in the way its fine for me. Ive never had a problem with mine and still (touch wood) havnt had an overrun

on the SHA range of SLOSH`s a mag is needed to get most from reel as i find with one brake block they run to fast and with 2 to slow!
I have 2 magged up 20 SHA`s (one from John R above!) for distance / beach
and 2 magged up 30 SHA`s for rough stuff.
I can get the 20`s as far as any 7HT or 6500 or akios with 15lb line...
so hence why i sold my sportshuttle recently.
Andy Rutherford has some nice mono mags in, dead easy to do yourself. My Weapons of Choice
RODS:
Shimano Aspire 130 AX Surf , Shimano Aspire 140 AX Surf, Reelsport Responce ,Team Daiwa TDXS 130XM for the rough, Shakespear Ugly Stick Gold 7ft Spinning
REELS:
Shimano Speedmaster CFS IV x3 , Abu 7500 C3CT Blue x 2, Abu 7500 CT Elite, Penn 970 mono mag for the rough, Shimano 4000 Exage for Spinning

just bought a diawa 30 shv filled it wth 15lb diawa sensor line .went down tyne after work fri put reel on m4 gt with 190 grm lead.
i put two medium sized blocks in yellow rocket fuel in bearing i think i put,far enough distance for me reel sounded great i dont know the distance cant walk on water but i was more than impressed on were lead landed in the water wth a strong side wind as well.
i wont be magging any of the 20 or 30s up again not needed in my opion .
only prob wth brake blocks is they keep getting lost but the magnet knob for me as i already have said gets in the way for me.did you know panel pins comes in diff sizes ?
