  • they should be ashamed

mate and i went crabbing today, when we got there ther was a massive digger next to mates traps having just demolished a very large concrete jetty, so decided not to do our traps and leave them for another day, so with nowt to do we decided to stop at jarra park and have a chat to the crabbers there, when we got there only one crabbing, when me mate noticed loads of DEAD FLOUNDERS lying there, as a lot of tem were dark side up and made it hard to count them in the dirty manky slurry still managed to counte 30+, we was then told a certain angling club was fishing ther and it was their doing a'll not mention the club just in case it was not them was some orther club that done it and as the title of thread says
THEY SHOULD BE BE ASHAMED as this mass slaughter will sooner or later diminish the flounder stocks and these same match anglers will probably be the first to complain about the dwindling catches

Through the 80, and early 90,s that was common on the Wear.
Loads of Flounders dumped after a match, sometimes over a hundred.
Non of the matches were like 90% these days(measure and release).
Its very unusual for any club to kill as many Flounders these days.Who is to say it wasn,t a few idiots doing the same as they do with the Macky on the piers, catching loads then dumping them.

it ... DEFINATELY.. wasnt the Hartlepol Pirates. mainly because we never catch that many fish.

in the rivers we always fish, measure and release. as we will be tonight on the Wear

The Alberta fished their match on Saturday (unless they do a weekday one also which I don't know about). I'm not a member but know people who are. Also I've been told they transfer fish to an aerated bucket to be returned. Whoever it is that's just shocking

As an official of the Alberta club I can confirm that we return all fish when ever possible. Most Members keep flats in buckets of water some going as far as having pumps fitted. All members are responsible for the disposal of their fish whether dead or alive, this is for all fish. A large number of fish would not be dumped like this as nobody caught this many fish. We also distribute dead fish within the local community for cat owners. These people are normally friends of members, or Alberta club patrons. The Alberta SAC do recognize this dumping of fish as shameful and consider themselves as taking every step to improving sea angling and the conservation of the environment and its fish. Before this incident was brought to press the Alberta SAC were considering going to measure and release for certain match's next year, (where large numbers of flats and possibly whiting are available) to try to help the conservation of fish.
I hope this clear's up this matter.
