  • old gear is still good!

    hi all!
was going through my gear last nite and decided to strip down and clean my
    old shakespear neptune multi
well i have to say for it being my first ever multi suprisingly its in
excellent shape inside with a few scrapes on the side plates and
the fact that being bought from new in 97 it has never been cleaned just
the odd oiling now and then!
thinking back i used to abuse it aswell so you can understand my suprise
that all the inner parts are in tip top nick
inknow there outdated abit now and some of you may have your own opinion
of it but to me its my favorite reel still and ive used and ive tried quite a few big name reels when been out with pals aswell
that reel has been everywhere fishing with me and never ever let me down!
internally the insides are very similar to the abu 6000/6500s and we all know
that they are very reliable indeed! plus i read somewhere that abu own shakespear so that mite explain it(forgive me if im wrong)
so my question is this does anyone of you guys have one of these little smashers lying around for learning with or just having for standard fishing its great and if you see one on flea bay there a great little buy for a backup reel too!

Old gear or new gear if your happy with what your using that`s all that matters everyone has there favourite rods and reels, its all about catching fish not what gear your using I have in my opinion good tackle but dont jump on every new rod and reel thats release I know a few that do ... I stil have a abu 6500C in my box from 1985 had a few tweeks (ceramic bearings and mono mag) but still a old reel,on the Abu / Shakespeare connection they are both under the pure fishing banner but this has only happened in the last decade, they had no connection when your Shakespeare reel was produced ....

Hi mate, i was given a neptune reel and also the hurricane a good while
back, the lad said the where knackered, so stripped them down cleaned
and oiled and put them back together, the hurricane is still knackered but
the neptune is spot on casts nice and smooth, was going to put it in the
for sale section but dont know its worth.

If you look after your gear it will last years with the odd repair now and then if something works well and your happy with it and it does the job you need it to do why change it I know lads that want to change gear every time a new rod or reel comes out but they don't catch any more fish it's the same with golf gear they want new clubs every other year but they don't get any better.

I cannot agree with you more Codseeker m8 as if your happy with what you/ve got then stick to it as its not these new reels that there shouting about doing the buisness as that is just patter so you jump to it and bye one but for me i have 2 HT7 Tournament reels the old type and never had any bother with them whats so ever so i am happy when i am out fishing as they run smooth as anything and ive always had a good cast with them so again stick to your guns as the old gear is best okay.

I once bought an auld second hand Milbro 13' beachcaster years ago for £15 whenI was getting back into sea angling. It was glass and as stiff as a clothes prop but I could get very good distance with it and loved it. i just can't remember what happened to it like, I seem to have lost it somewhere along the line when upgrading
