        In the watter marra!

Pulley pennell or pennell dropper rig with 3/0 or 4/0 good strong hooks (sakuma manta) on 70lb line (50lb for snood if prefered)

Try from middleton throwing straight off the end as far as you can smash it generally see's plenty of ok size codling

Other than that try red light (pilot pier) on the headland fishing off the left corner or straight off the front right into channel

Or the heugh but its not sonewhere id fish in cod conditions

U want to fish in big rough seas or just after.. Best fishing in darkness...

        Obviously this is for winter

Bait: fresh blacks, yellow tails, runnydown, squid, crab will generally fish best...

Good to fish 2 rods... One as above and one smaller hooks (1/0) with makky or rag on 2 hook flapper to keep u busy with whiteys etc

Good luck and put plenty of hours in... Brave the weather and it will pay off

sometimes its about the mark and catching it right best on a dying sea after a big blow obviously the conditions are safe ,clean ground and rough kelpy ground shud produce fish ,but rougher expect tackle loss ,myself i prefer worm baits using a pennel pulley rig ,but crab baits fish certain time a year for bigger fish late summer till early spring fresh or frozen but dont be afraid to use bigger hooks have ya seen the size of a a codlings mouth

cod can turn up anywhere in hartlepool.

but it will depend on wind direction, sea conditions, size and state of the tide.

middleton will only fish in very specific conditions as will the pilot.

best way is spend your winter getting out and looking for the crowds.

you will soon work out that in certain conditions you need to be in a specific area to be in with any chance.

just turn up anywhere and you will fail.
