just abot any where on pier ok when the maki are in , the the round to the blocks the best shot. can be any stage of tide

on bigger tides and with clear water alot lot of lads like to fish for them from brigade hut to the first gate, usually flood

on other side of gate harbour sideto about the (22---25 mark) also but not as good, usually flood

then there is the wheel from the double set of steps (45 mark) to the end used tio be apopular shot for floating for maki usually flood

as for float rig buy kit from shop follwo intructions and regular adjust stop knot to the depth where maki is

as for float rig, buy one out of shop and adjust stop knot to the depth the maki are

some guys even climb down on to blocks and fish from there (THATT NOT RECOMENED JUST STUPID as waves can splah up on big tides a nd littsea movement can )

as last of aall the the other side of block (46 mark) to bout the 27 sea
              usally on flood

thats how i would fish for the maki 2when a do and thats not often

and then agin have seen maki on all stages of tide and weather so go for it anywhere and when ever

as for float rig buy kit from shop and follow instructions and adjust stop knot regular till find maki depth

The reason port of Tyne are so strict is down to the idiotic minority of anglers that insist on fishing the Pier in unsafe conditions as pot are responsible for safety on the pier they could be liable if any one is washed over or injured so you can't blame company's or organisation for trying to protect them selves against the blame culture that exists these days, as usual it's the minority who spoil things for the majority.
That's just me having a rant.
