  • Daft FS/Multiplier reel question

Well it's windy and wet this weekend, therefore no fishing. Not many reports to read so, I thought I'd ask something that I have never understood.

Why are most fixed spool reels left handed, yet while most multipliers appear left handed, they are actually right handed, but you have to turn your rod upside down to make it so?

And why does left handed suit fixed spool reels, but right handed suits multipliers, but only with an upside down rod?

As you can tell, I'm bored, and yes know I should get out more, but interested to hear your thoughts all the same!

The handle will unscrew then attach it back on the other side mate. Most fixed spools can be used on either side although when you buy them it will be on the left hand side.

      stuff

Hi lads, its always bothered me,but i think the reason is which hand uo actualley stabilise the rod with, multiplier up you steady with your left hand, fixed spool down you steady the rod with the right hand, its just how we were brought up doing ittry it now when the weather is bad put your multiplier in the down position like a fixed spool and try and wind it or fishing a fixed spool on the top it just feels wierdsomeone brighter than me maybe able to figure it outim using a scarboro reel now for the really rough kelp beds, that is completeley kak handed
sometimes i sits and thinks, but thinks better whilst sitting on a rock fishing

hi mark, heres the exiled jocks take on things

most f/spool reels are right or left hand

i guess the multiplyers sit "up" to allow line control by ones thumb

multiplyers come in right or left hand but have to be bought as 1 or the other.

if you werent confused before, fair chance you are now

most, if not all fixed spool reels are designed so you can change the handle to suit left or right handed people, multipliers [as far as i know] come in either left or right handed but not adjustable, as for the upside down rod lark, i dont think you should be fitting either of these reels to your rod tip, at least i dont think so.
