  • Well today went well...

Fished the Heugh, Hartlepool. 6:30am wake up, i thought "come on let's have a good 'un today". Stopped at the shop for a paper and refreshments, made some rigs while i read the sports pages, what a good way to start the day...i thought.

    It was a disaster.

Got over the gate just fine, with two rods and a carryall. Stood at the end and sorted my first rod out, in went the bait. If you've never fished the Heugh before there's a metal 'structure' at the end which i placed my rod in as a kind of rest.

Whilst i'm messing on sorting the other rod out, i see a bite on the first rod and it came loose. I ran across just as the twine holding it in place snapped, and the whole rod was pulled over the side onto the next ledge. The line went slack, i jumped down and just before i grabbed it off it went into the drink, against the tide

My favourite rod!!! I didn't see any seals kicking about and i was only using mackerel slithers as bait

I turned the air blue but thankfully i was the only one there so the immediate embarrassment was shared by myself only. I picked up my other rod, first cast...snagged on the kelp. WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG?!?! The fishing God's were not my friend today, at all. It was my last weight too, i only had small weights for crab lines left.

So i trudged back, somehow got my finger caught jumping the barrier and took a big chunk out of it, then it rained. Who said fishing was fun??

I might sell my remaining rod, i've had enough.

Cheers Dave, i'm a bit gutted. Had that rod for years, i just wish i could find out what took it over. Can't believe it!! It was definately something on 'cause i watched it for ages before i left it and it didn't move no matter how big the waves were
