Have just been looking through some old sea angler mags that i purchased of ebay 1983 to be exact! some bloody good bags of cod caught, some great hairstyles and fashions to boot,ha ha..Great to read what was actually getting caught in april83.This is actually one anglers catch from hebburn 40 CODLING on lugworm ,good old days.Actually on a sadder note theres also an article on a young lad who was killed by a sinker on shields pier while night fishing,Paul Hurst i believe and there was a memorial match held. That was something i never knew about.... On the whole very intersting reading....cheers all.

Not sure I agree Jordy. Headlines are often deceptive things. I can remember many years in the 70s when you failed to catch a fish all winter and I\'ve never heard of as many doubles as we\'ve had this year. Agree totally about the stocks but it\'s funny how it manifests itself with shore fishing. Perhaps the fish are learning that close in means relative safety ???

Agree with you m8 on the amount of doubles that were landed this season but from the mag articles written by Tony Taylor there seems to have been a lot bigger bags back in the 80\'s, just find it fascinating as i was just a wee nipper back then and did\'nt get the chance to catch some meself hahaha...cheers.

Roll on June Steve, I\'m going up to fish the 2 matches in Kirkcudbright over the weekend of the 5th and 6th - can\'t wait. Good crack, good beer and a massive hangover on the sunday morning - all guaranteed
let me know how you get on as i\'m staying at brighouse bay last two weeks in june, i\'ll be limited to early morning sessions (first light til about 10am family holiday etc) i\'ll be piking a lot of mornings but do intend to do some sea fishing as well.

Yeah, I remember the South Shields pier accident.
I fished the first memorial comp, blanked.
I had a Pateke Morton rod, top gear at the time, the then GF bought it for my birthday, at Bagnall n Kirkwoods, 92 quid. lot of dosh then, and I lost the top half on Blyth Pier, my dad ended up with the best bloody hoe handle in the country.!!
now then alan....Sea Angler mags from 83...lets guess. How to tie knots...erm.. how to cast with a fixed spool,...ads for the great new Mitchell multipler,..( free pit winding gear sound effects) and tip of the month.
I actually had my tip in about then ( ooer missus!!) a paint bucket from marley tiles converted into a tackle box.Maker and inventor of CANNYLINKS, the best rotten bottom system bar none. IMHO!
