My wife bought me one she found in some car boot sale.
Advice to tie your bait on with wool, red workks best it seems.
Cast it out at low tide and leave it while you walk back as tide comes in so it stays in deep water.
Few "tips" like that and they make fun reading.

"The Compleat Angler" by Isaak Walton...

Written over 300 years ago and full of useful advice about to spit-roast a freshly caught tench or tickle minnows. Right laugh.

Also good: "Darwin's Bass: The Evolutionary Psychology of Fishing Man" by Paul Quinnett....

Beats reading the repetitive, tackle-tartery of Sea Angler magazine every month
          PBs...Cod 8lb2oz.. Turbot 3lb2oz.. Whiting 1lb8oz.. Coalie 1lb9oz.. Flounder 1lb7oz.. Dab 15oz.. Plaice 13oz.. Bass 1lb 6oz
