Looks like some fish merchant has dumped the frames after removing the wings.

      thorns

thorns are caught all the time by the net boats those fish look like the wings have been removed thats the usable part and the rest tossed overboard a few years ago peter thain told me he used to catch them regular from lyne burn
old anglers never die -they just smell that way

Nar,wings been cut off, the wings are the only edible part of a thornback ray.
They look a canny size as well.

They were around 30-35cm not very big at all a couple were around 40cm but none bigger than that not to sure of a weight but they were very thin

Ive never seen thornbacks before so its a new experience to me

There's a good possibility that these fish were taken by set lines,it coincides with the big tides over the weekend.

This method was used a lot on the Hall beach at Seaham Harbour and loads of thornback rays were taken by set lines revolving on a pulley system pegged out to sea on big spring tide.

The multi-hooks baited with any fish bait and could be hauled in at any state of the tide and re baited then hauled back out again.

There are no minimum size for rays! Which makes this legal. Utter stupidity in my book!.
The minimum size limits are a complete joke! Especially for cod! I've ranted about this before so won't bore you again!
                    Stay safe!
                    Enjoy your fishing!
                    Take your rubbish home!

used to work down there.fish merchants wing them and offal the rest;if offal binns overflowed and taken away, they just dump carcasses in tyne, probobly washed up then on beach.happens a lot.

terrible to see that, but that`s the way the fishing industry is, why buy a whole fish, wen you can buy only the edible wings. but they should be discarded in a better way. ! .
