  • sand spike? anyone rate them?

    my rod stand has seen better days, bout time i got a new one, i mainly fish beaches and was wondering if anyone uses a sand spike? pro's and cons?!

    a have big clumbsy trypod, which is handy for setting up on. a made a couple of spike`s at work, light and very handy. not much help m8.

      aye same bud, my tripod has a bent leg rust spots the little hook is missing, i fancy a spike, but id miss having somewhere to hang my bait and next rig! and a spike would be easyer and lighter to carry, they dont seen pricey so might just try one haha

        av got a spare 1 that a welded up at work, (aluminium), your welcome to it m8, if your ever up this end of the world.

          NO TINMAN , dont do it , buying an aluminium sandspike is nee good for 'our' beach . i have one and has been a dissapointment so far. me and beachboy are thinking of getting one made from heavier material . u can borrow mine if u want.

              did`nt say it was 4 sale. can`t sell on here, he can have it if he wan`ts. thought about the weight bit wen making them, welded a foot stand on, dog`s bollicks.

                  i was thinking about the amount of stone like! my tripod isnt totally knackered like it will last just fancy i shinney new thing lol and thought a spike might be easyer ive gotta walk that dean holm bank every sesh hahaha norty!

                    was saying in general marra, i bought one from republic and its not great for where i fish ,, didnt really read ur post ....im sure the one u made would be better than my bought version , best one ive seen is the ones made in the days the pits were open ....now thats a spike n a half

                        ya not missin much m8, but it sounds ok to me. me and me m8 were just talking about going and buying a load of gear of dustybin, and fishing somewhere down there, is that anywhere near you. ?

                            Been using my aluminium sand spikes for over 25 years on beaches at Horden,blast,Seaham hall,Lynemouth and the holderness beaches and they are still going strong.

                            I made these spikes from aluminium scafold polls cut out and one piece jobs they are very strong lightweight and easy to fit between my tackle box and the back rest so don't even need a holdall to carry them.

                            I then use a small telescopic poll with two upturned hooks that fits into my box and hang my traces on that.

                            But I do agree the shop bought ones are rubbish.
