  • Akios reels

Anyone other than me using them in anger ?

I've fished mine two and three times most weeks for the last several months straight and I'm dead impressed with them.

Like fishing an old Abu, only better

I've a pair of Akios 757 CS (Abu 7000 counterpart) and they are seriously good workhorse reels. I removed all the brakes bar one on each reel and deliberately left the factory grease and oil on to see what they could do out of the box and you can cast a big cast despite the levelwind.

I've had a few throws with my mates shuttle and that's an unbelievable casting machine.

For lighter seas, warmer weather and my bass rods I've been looking at a pair of Akios 656 CS reels - they are effectively an Abu Rocket counterpart - a gross oversimplification I know - and every time I look at them they seem to be winking back

Akios have their work cut out competing against the likes of Daiwa, Penn and Abu but their products are great and their prices are very competitive. Strength to their arm !

Any other users out there ?

If so, are you impressed, underwhelmed or entirely indifferent ?

Av just bought the 656CTM and is a nice solid piece of kit , casts well and is smooth and quiet. I also have the Diawa 7HT Mag which is as good as it gets for "out the box" reel.

I'm using the shuttles and cant fault them. Sold my 7ht mags as i think the akios are a better reel. Better built and more tuneable if thats even a word lol

yup got the 666 scw shuttle

            the wider one.

and wow -like reels of 20 years ago in quality.. and the cage is better than a qtc.

the reel side plates are thick brass

and have to say on the whole superb - if you are a abu fan of the pre china / pure fishing take over era.. then akios are the reels to have
jsut wishthey would make a 7000 sized one piece shuttle cage

              akios reels

haha used in anger like it,,iv certainly abused mine camping and fishing around the west coast of Scotland on an eight week fishing trip,,,hauled out huge Pollock, coalies from kelp beds,,, theyre not the speediest of haulers but they are geared more for rough ground,,,and that's been a blessing dragging fish through kelp forests,,, amazing reels,,, but then the guy was chief engineer at abu,,,30 years,,,so its hardlly surprising,,theyre basically well over engineered abu,s best bit of kit to hit the reel scene in years

I think everyone else has their work cut out keeping up with akios,,,, the two main abu engineers ,are now akios ! they left to set akios up ,when the abu quality went down hill, funny thing is iv only ever hear abu owners calling them ! haha

Theyre expensive as f*ck, as is all tackle these days

Also, how do the 656 cs manage when they have a fish on the end? Do they struggle to wind them in?

got a 666 and dont rate it at all
Im sure there cracking build quality but it does not work how i want it to! its somewhere in the middle of what i expected (not bad but not good either)
7ht mag puts it to shame! how its marketed as a beast of a reel is out and out rubbish
