  • Loch Aline / Loch Etive

I'm thinking of having a trip to fish both these lochs in early June but have never fished them before.

Info from anyone regarding the best marks up there would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

You would be best off just fishing Etive,at Loch Aline you will have to put up with a lot of LSD,s.They are not as numerous in Etive.
The mark me and my mates have had the best results over the last 8 years is the Church. You fish 30 yds from the car.Mostly Thornbacks in daylight, but you can get a few Spurs.Darkness is best for the Spurs.
Big tides are best and if you can,t put a bait a long way 3 hours either side of low is the best time to fish. You will need some wire or heavy braid on your snoods as the Spurs will bite through even 80lb mono.3 Inches of this above the hook is enough.Pulley and up and down rigs are the best.
The bait we have done the best with is Sand Eel and squid wrap. Macky also fishes well.
Drive up the loch and you will come to the church on your left, park opposite and you will see a small burn to your left.Either side of this casting towards the bridge is best.

You could also fish the wind sock just outside the loch on the north side,it fishes best in the dark. Not so good if there's been strong westerlies as it can get full of weed.

A lot of lads fish the ledge that is half way up the loch, but is a canny hike as you have to leave the car just past the quarry at Bonaw. This is the deepest part of the loch,up to 400ft.
    Hope this helps....

            I forgot to add.
As your going in june, take some insect repellent as the midgies will eat you alive at dawn and dusk if theres no wind.
Avon "Skin so soft" is better than proper repellent if you can get it.

The Priory is another church a couple of mile up the loch,it can fish well in darkness for Spurs.Odd Thornies in daylight.
The Quarry is at Bonaw, its the furthest you can drive on the north side of the loch. You can catch the odd fish there but there are a lot better marks.
You used to be able to drive through the quarry but i was told they have started locking the gates now, which means a canny hike around a mile to the flat rock.
There are a few marks on the south side but they are a long walk and fish no better than those on the north side.
Taynult jetty is practicaly oppisite the quarry but doesn,t fish very well.

If you go to Lochaline, make sure your reels are brim full - you'll not believe the depth of water there. Even pulling up a dog is a major ballache.
