  • Where this weekend ?

Beadnell was high on my list (still is) but after words of wisdom from others and after seeing the rubbish forecast over the next few days I may have a rethink.

I don't want to fish a river, so where on this side of the country would you recommend based on the expected weather conditions ?

I often nip down to St Mary's when the weather comes in since if you can't fish West Bay you can usually pop back round the corner and fish Latch Dyke south of St Mary's or one of the marks up towards Hartley. The beauty to all the little bays and inlets is that you can usually find somewhere sheltered enough to allow a cast or three, but not if the sea is raging, obviously.

That might leave Whitley Pipe (conditions permitting) or maybe King Edward's Bay might work out around low water.

    Thoughts appreciated.

I need to get out and shake the cobwebs loose - my head's full of dandelion fluff after a couple of crappy weeks (no change there, some might say )

Hi mate you have given some great advice on the site not only to me,(st abbs and surounding)so i would like to try and give you some back, try south shields pier two hours up and threehours back if the tides let you do this. The seaward side wall up towards the drum end,use the method you use at dunstaborothe hair rigged mussel,or mackerel and drop it directley down the side of the pier,it used to work twenty years ago,so i dont see why it wont work now,ive seen pollack to 6 pound caught like this, coalies to three pound, and an 8 pound codling(my personal best)caught down the side, you may suprise yourself, its all about structures, the beasties feel safe next to the wall, there is cover, kelp, and food,a fish doesnt care how far you can cast or what gear youve got, it has to want it in its gob
sometimes i sits and thinks, but thinks better whilst sitting on a rock fishing
