Hi lads was going to go down the older route for hoying leads into the kelp in south east scotland with a scarboro reel and rod, thanks to everyone who made offers of the loan of a scarboro reel, but the rods are nigh on impossible to get at any price So i have managed to get a couple of shimano speedmastertsm11cfs of e bay,(mine were nicked twenty years ago along with my rods)i used to fish with an abu 484 and a century fireblade and they were brilliant in the kelp!If anyone has got anything similar or modern alternatives at a decent price give me a shout, willing to pay postage or pick up at the end of may, cheers exiled geordie

See if you get hold of a conoflex dc8 or dc6,old glass rods that you can still pick up today cheap.
the abu 484 was never a heavy ground rod mate so you would be more than happy with the dc8.
        couple this with a penn 535 brake-block reel.....spot on.

go for the conoflex mate, the abu 464 again not for the heavy stuff but mind
you a great classic 80s pendulum rod.

if you're short chucking, why not try fixed spool with 100lb braid and an old conoflex rod with dural butt?

                    interesting

Hi matei, ive got the two shimano speedmaster multipliers now,but up for new ideas,i take it youve used it yourself, intrigued,i suppose when i last seriously fished twenty years ago the fixed spools werent up to much, never used braid but up for the idea, advice on a decent fixed spool would be handy
