    I remember the bus driver and some other guy undoing my brass ferulle on my dads fibre glass rod! Is walked off the north pier, so cold I couldn't budge it.
    Marvelous job they did!
    1983 ish.

        Harry see if you can get hold of any of the laytex band that physios use for resistance stretching . All you need is a couple of bits 10 inches long , just wrap one each side of the joint to hold onto while you twist the rod apart , it wont slip and gives a superb grip , when your done just put it back in your bag ( 2 bits this size weigh nothing and will fold up very small ).

          keep some elastic bands in your tackle box and if you struggle to seperate the rod put them around either side of the spiggot the rubber gives you extra grip.this technique also works to open lids from jars and pop bottle tops
