Iv'e hurt my left hand and can't grip to well at the moment.(£20 notes ok)
Yesterday while putting a rod together when I wanted to split the rod I couldn't part the spigots joint.

Lucky I was at home so I just left the rod together propped up in the front room then my mate called the next day and got it apart(after a struggle).

Now if this had been on a remote beach away from home with no helpers in sight it could have been a big problem.

So......anyone had this problem and is there any grip stuff or things that can help get a better hold on the rod to split the spigot joint.

I was thinking on the lines of the Daiwa rods that have a grip material just above and below the joint.

Harry, there is a shrink wrap that you can buy, dont know what its called, but it has a rough surface, better grip for pulling the rod apart. I know Stan ( fish fingers) has or did have some

My sons got stuck one night out fishing because of the rain I think, anyway we get the bus but this night because we couldn't seperate the rod, the driver wouldn't let us on. I cursed and we walked home lol.

Getting a grip

There's been some replies to stuck spigots from ppl who suggest using them marigold gloves harry.

Yeah I remember reading and commenting on that post but I think the lad
had a stuck spigot that a 10 man tug o war team couldn't shift.

My problem is I would need just a aid to release a tight spigot something like a big girl or me just couldn't twist free.
Once the spigot was split I refitted and removed it time and time again without any major problem but that's not to say if I was out somewhere by myself it could happen again.

Thanks lads for your suggestions and that rough sided shrink tube might be a good aid to getting a better grip and also would be very easy to shrink on.

But I do like the Dawia idea that they use.

I had a megger problem with my wr300, even had to drive home one day with it sticking out of the car window, eventually got it apart and then got an offer from terry to sort it for good. I took the rod to his place and he did something to the spigot then advised me to keep it moist like with petroleum jelly from time to time. It always needed 2 to part it anyway before it got completely stuck. I was on the verge of chucking it over the wall but now it's fine

Funny one

Well Harry m8t i had that problem a while back and what i did i used a thin film of vaseline inside the spigot and it done the trick because if salt water gets into it it seems to corrode the inside of the spigot and that makes it tighten up okay.

What about one of them things you see for opening Jar tops etc. Loop a rubber strap around the offending article then the ends feed into a handle, principle is then similar to the operation of a monkey wrench.

They cost about a pound at Poundland

I use a couple of pieces of soft foam type rubber that came as packaging with a pair of Daiwa waders,they give a very good grip.
Or you could eat loads of Spinach and end up with forearms like Popeye for a "really" strong grip....

I don't really want to go to that expense mate,plus I don't need a Pair of waders.

I've been on the spinach for years Davey but it's just worked on my waistline.

happened a few times the stuck spigot, especialy in the winter when theres no-one about, anyway to get a really good grip even when wet i carry a couple foot of tennis racket grip, couple wraps round my hands and can get proper grip of rod, then just fold it away again in my box ready for the next time its stuck...

go to a sport shop and get some tennis grip tape, only a few quid, should help
