  • Mono Line Comparison

I was in the market for some new line and was comparing braid with different mono lines. I came across a couple of low diameter mono lines and decided to "buy and try". I bought 300 yds of Hikaru 0.35mm, 27 lb BS £5 delivered and 300 yds of Grauvell 0.50 mm , 55 lb shock leader £12. I have fished a couple of sessions and I must say that the Hikaru line is really nice to fish with if a little odd in texture when reeling in - smooth but the dry line doesn't burn the fingers ans sort of slightly crinkly but no real memory. Knot tying is excellent on it. The line diameters are much closer to braid than I would of expected for mono. If you have a look at the attached picture I have compared the BS vs line diameters.

I have now bought some 0.22 mm, 15lb for my spinning reel but no time to test it yet.

    line

thin dia mono lines are great for spinning or very good ground but on part rough or v rough ground they dont do so well a slight nick or abrasion seams to weaken them more than standard line i was always told to buy line by dia rather than bs
old anglers never die -they just smell that way
