  • Glass Tip...?

Is a glass tip a faster action than a carbon tip or are they pretty much the same.

Glass tips are more sensitive so better bite detection etc.

Not strictly true, fibreglass is more flexible but this can also soak up the bites, some fine carbon tips are just as sensitive, certainly you will not feel the bites in your hand as well with a glass tip. I personally prefer carbon tips as they feel more direct but each to their own. For scratching and seeing tiny bites yes fibreglass provides an element of cushioning and allows a tip to bend in the tide to show drop back bites. Casting wise the carbon tips probably have a slight advantage in quicker recovery and holding a wider casting arc but a glass tip can flatter and iron out timing mistakes. Whatever works for you really!

I find with the rod I'm using now the glass tip shows bites better while on the stand but less feel while in the hand which is how I prefer to fish.
