  • The Fishermans apprentice.

How come Monty kept Ballon Wrasse to eat and everyone i have seen caught--even big ones are chucked back in as if they are uneatable.
Next one i catch is going in the pan.
    Mick.

Mick, I know a guy who is a very good sea angler, even made the front page of sea angler many years ago with a massive coddie, we were talking about eyemouth fishing, i mentioned the stonker wrasse you can catch up there and he agreed it's a brilliant place for that species. He then told me he once kept a one and it was the most horrible thing he's ever tasted.

          Hello,
          Don't bother Mick......they taste like a postman's foot!

Like Coddy has said they are good fun on the lighter gear when you're fishing the likes of St Abbs but now on some of the Northumberland marks they are a pain when you're after the codlings.

          Regards Ian

I agree wrasse are more of a sport fish,
But the second last episode of the program where the guy with the gill net was catching cod during the ban, then putting them on deck to die instead of throwing them straight back...
Sorry like but he is no fisherman.
            Stay safe!
            Enjoy your fishing!

Best show that's been on the telly for ages, watched every episode. Well presented with no sensationalism and some great genuine characters.

I agree, most of them were still kicking when he brought them in and he didnt even try and get them back.

yeah good programme thats just highlighting the problems hugh-fearnley-whittingstall broadcasted,i think its shocking how a boat might get scrapped or not worked any more but is still able to keep its quoter and even sell or rent his quoter out, this defeats the object,it was on the same episode as the coddies dying on deck,he said if youve got a quoter even if you havnt got boat any more its a excellent investment, terrible, just 1 of many loopholes in the bylaws, these trawlermen who got caught landing to many cod the other week by pumping cod down a alternative pipe to avoid weighing and calculated, these are the 1s damaging our shore fishing and the reputations of honest trawlermen
