Hi lads,i started a thread about louie who used to backcast with a scarboro reel with heavy line and mussell and peeler into the kelp and used to win most of or competitions, his aim was not to cast to far(even though in his seventies he wanged it out into the main channel 120 yards backcasting)he won our event at the paintworks at heworth by doing this on bait described as"stinking"it was lug and mussel from the previous weeks boats fishing from eyemouth.Anyway he also won that with the same scarboro reel and muppets,as a young un i didnt take much notice and fished from the shore (20 years ago)with an abu 484 and an abu 7000,quality kit at the time,he used to get fish in where i would not,or get bites where we all couldnt,it was tweeks in his bait or just knowing where the fish were,us guys should talk to the older guys, hoying in the kelp with sturdy gear, and above all getting on paper there knowledge,we will get more fish
