First rod and reel combo I can remember being my own, and not a lend from my Dad was a 12" Milbro Barebones and Mitchel 602AP with a Don's antilash fitted. The Barebones snapped first cast with only a 4oz weight on. It came from the Littlewoods catalogue (20 weeks at 30p) and was soon replaced without any hastle.

First rod and reel I got was 20 odd years ago and can't for the life of me remember what they was called. After that 20 odd year break my starter rod was a Salt long surf rod and shimano aerlex 8000XS reel.

first beachcaster rod was a milbro 12ft bought at robinsons tackle shop on percy street with a mitchel 600p multi when i was 18 the rod is still used and so to the reel only had to buy a new spool cause i burst it using it on a boat trip still casts as good as ever not bad as i am now 52
have bought new gear over the last two or three year but still give the old gear the odd day out
