  • Prawns for bait ?

Hi, I think this question has been asked before, but never mind I'm after some advice. I'm gonna give prawns a "shot" when bait fishing from a boat. What I need to ask is : I presume you fish with RAW prawns, and not cooked ones. Do you peel them before mounting them on the hook, or do you put them on still in their shell. I won't be casting so they won't fly off the hook. Also where can I buy large cheap packets of them (frozen).
    Thank's for any advice.

Cooked or frozen with shells on, bait them on daylites. Any supermarket has them for a few pounds.

        Prawns for bait.

Well Bazacodbasher cant see any difference from crab in its shell so you can only but try it out and if they can catch cod on pork pies you can catch them on anything as long as its edable as ive had sausage on my rigs at times and caught fish with that okay

in the above comp, i caught (approx) 40 of those whiting on prawn.

john and adam also did well using prawn as bait (raw & shelled)

I was left some cooked whole (with shell and head) prawns by a guy fishing next me who had left - these did just as well.

I use Asda's frozen uncooked prawns when kayak fishing and have found them nearly as productive as fresh crab baits for codling. Used the same for shore fishing and have picked up whiting and coalies.
A bad days fishing is better than a good day at work.

                        Prawns

I use prawns in there shells I prefer blood head prawns but normal fresh prawns from your local fish quay are probably about best as fish in your area know what the prawn in your area look like, believe it or not only 3weeks ago I caught a 8-10ozcodling on a 5 inch tiger prawn with its shell on,still don't know how it managed to get it all in

Was out on Monday night at saltburn using frozen king prawns from Asda £3 a bag and caught couple of flatties and plenty of bites from saltburn pier from king prawns

I only tried them as a few nights ago a guy was none stop catching from prawns so I gave them a try and would use them again
