  • Rod recommendations

I have a couple of rods I am happy with for heavy/winter work, but I'd like a pair for the rest of the year.

I'm not averse to building from blanks (I used to build a lot of fly and salmon spinning rods years ago) but, being a naturally lazy hack, I would rather buy something I can fish with straight away.

I recently bought a 12' 6" Greys GRX-S 2-5oz Bass rod and, to be honest, I'm considering buying another one and using it/them for spring through to autumn fishing and then bringing the bigger guns out for the winter or when heavy rock fishing. It can throw a very long way even with a big bait and has great bite detection, and is so light compared to the bigger rods.

Before I go down that route has anyone any suggestions ?

I'm not precious about make (my favourite sea fishing rod of all-time is an old 13' Penn INXS-2 Groundcaster that I find dead predictable and very usable) but the priority here is lighter than the heavy winter rods I am using, for general work throughout the spring, summer and into the autumn. I'm just getting a bit tired of lugging telegraph poles around with me along with a pile of heavier leads...

Suggestions from those who have used various rods in anger particularly appreciated.
