  • What is this??

Was down at Robin Hoods Bay at the weekend and found this fish dead on the beach. The following day I found a further 4 dead specimens. Today I went along Whitley Bay beach and found 9 of them dead. Has anyone any idea what is is?

    cheers

Read a little bit about them...they come inshore in the spring to spawn, but beyond that I don\'t know.

        Have a look here...

Aye definitely a lumpsucker. Used to find load sof them on the beach as a kid. The males turn an orangey colour when they spawn and I think like salmon they pop their clogs after they\'ve done the business.
I\'m sure they\'re also known as the henfish.

found a couple up here too, was last week, in an east facing bay near where the north sea and atlantic ocean meet, both had bright orange bellies. must admit it looked like they had been dumped but as you found so many washed up i wonder if they do snuff it when they have done their sha**ing bit

Stuey don’t think the fish knows how to use the phone.
