I could offer an alternative solution. Get yourself an "cranked" trigger grip reel seat -ABU used to make them for the 484's. This would mean cutting the butt and epoxying in the fitting but it would drop the reel by 8 - 10 mm.

Thanks for the constructive suggestion - something along those lines could actually make a significant difference in the right direction
