mackerel fishing with a float and light tackle during the summer months is one of my favorite types of fishing, cos the little buggers go off like a steam train when hooked, punching way above their weight, but i always go at first light when it is quite, as soon as i hear[ow many f/////g macky av yer ad mate and giv us a can biffo yer daft c//t did yer ferget the bin bags] im off.

12th of MAy from the boat 5 miles out and 9th of June from the shore last year

My all time record is 2nd of May boat and 24th May shore, everything depends on the wind direction and how settled the sea is.

My boats underwater temp gauge was reading 10.7c last Friday mid afternoon.

You can catch mackerel with anything that is put in front of them and moved around, they attack anything

Very true mate, loads of times been hit by good size mackys when reeling in worm baits. Sometimes when there's just the hook there too.
