Swimfeeders ?

I've used them when I lived down south for barbel, tench and carp, but has anyone ever used them for shore fishing, to spread a small localised chum or groundbait around their trace ?

A bit pointless in a heavy sea but possibly worth a bash in calm conditions.

Just bouncing some ideas around for possible experimentation...

ive saw them advertised on fishing web sites b4 pal. like a cage around a spider weight i was gonna buy one but did thought it cud be a great idea for geting fish in the area around ya hook. cud just attract alot of crabs too lol. defo worth a shot tho

used plastic mesh cage type grip lead on last 5 trips. stuffed with cut up frozen sardine, sprat or mackeral. Only have 1. always fish 3 rods and the rod with the feeder on gets more bites and catches more fish every time. It seems very good for putting flatties on the bottom hook of a double or trebble snood rig. i will order some more for summer. Too good to use on rough ground. Good luck.

I was thinking of experimenting with one for fishing in rock gullies in fairer weather.

Provided a heavy sea isn't running it could be a good way of bringing in wrasse, pollack, coalies and bass (and crabs )

My thoughts were to throw a feeder/running ledger into a gully and float fish over the top and see what happens.

They use 'burly' or chum a lot in other countries with great success - perhaps some time spent playing around might bring success under the right conditions.

Thinking on a weekday...

Nothing good will come of it...

i use armamesh with mashed fish ...helps attract fish to the hooklenght. great in calm conditions . cost effective too.

I have been using the seascenter leads over most of this winter season. I stuff them with sardines usually as they are really cheap but have also used sprats and mackeral when I couldn't get sardines. I am not convinced they make much difference - I have caught fish with them but I catch without them too. I usually fish with two rods sometimes both with a seascenter sometimes one of each. One session when I used a seascenter on one rod and a standard griplead on the other the standard lead outfished the seascenter seven to one ! They sound like a good idea but in reality they don't seem to make much difference and the standard leads are more streamlined so cast better.

One interesting session with a seascenter at Jarrow park a couple of months back I had a big slow nod on my rod then my tackle started heading up river at speed. I struck and tried to reel it in but it would not budge and felt like something very big or maybe just a snag (though snags don't move up river ). After a few minutes of heaving it came free and I reeled in my tackle with no fish, my bait was intact but the sescenter cage had a big hole in it. So either I had snagged up the cage on a spike and snapped it off or a very large fish had picked up the seascenter instead of my bait and run with it before I heaved it out of its gob. Strange but true

ive experimented with them in the Wear for flounders with decent results but im not the only one as i know of another two anglers ive seen using the same set up ...
