The sl30sh is an ok casting reel as standard. Better once you flush the barings with lighter fluid and give them a drop of red rocket fuel. I use one red block for fishing.
I used to use a 7000c for rough ground work, and I think casts a little further, but the slosh is a better fishing reel imo.
If you do mod/ upgrade your reel let me know how you get on mate!Stay safe!
Enjoy your fishing!

If its extra distance over rough ground you want, why don't you try braid?. I got a mint sl20sh from a lad on here and filled it with 66lbs power pro. Same diameter as 16lb mono so casts for miles, cuts tide easier.Stay safe!

This is not meant to be contentious, or directed at anyone in particular, but could I ask what real-world gains are expected from such reel tuning jiggery pokery ?
My own thoughts are that the majority of out-of-the-box reels on the market today are probably capable of far more than their owners/users. I have the same opinion of guns, although I get the whole custom thing - most of my guns have been significantly altered to my own preference.
I just wondered what the expected gains are; some of the modifications seems a little fraught given that you have to permanently remove bits from your reel and then open a hole up with a drill bit or hand file...
Again, this is just out of curiosity (and my apologies if this is a thread hijack) but, for my money, I can't see how drilling/filing a reel and fitting go-faster bits benefits unless you are already operating at that reels upper limits of performance.
Assuming casting is like any other discipline then technique is likely to provide bigger gains to most users than modifications, no ?

Av just got my hands on one recently, a Sealine SLOSH X SHV 20, in good condition, ab give it a tough clean, oil, etc, and its running fast as... Cannit wait to use it, like being reunited with a long lost friend.South Shields & District SAC
