  • St Mary's island

Hi all. Just after some advice on st Mary's island. I fancy fishing it in sat but just wondering is it any good this time of year plus the tide is only 3.8m so will it fish on a small tide, what's the best bait
    Cheers all

It is quiet at the moment, however you may be lucky to pick up a fish or two. Can fish it all tides (obviously getting stranded over hw). your normal baits e.g. worm, muscle, fish baits, crab will all take fish from st mary's. Try fishing crisps gully on the flood and h.w. then as the tide ebbs move round the back to the pillar casting parrallel with the gully at the pillar. The ground is rough so take pleanty weights and use a strong setup with at least 30lb line straight through, alot of people use rotten bottems here but i dont, I lose less sinkers and gear just using pulley rigs with quite short snoods. i would come down and show you some marks around the island but its my birthday on saturday so im going to celebrate haha! good luck.

Yeah it's one of my old favourites I always go back to, started of fishing the small gullies for podlers and wrasse, crispins gully is on the left(when looking from the causway) if you go to the lighthouse itself and follow the path to the left untill you get to some stairs, there will be a deep gully infront of you to the right, to the left, on the "corner" (rock edge) casting towards Blyth, this is crisps. What time are you going? Might pop down for a few chucks in the morning.
