Mutiplier up or down?

I have Short Arms -

and your reels tend to get scratched aswell no good with the salty water if they are abu,s and you do,nt clean them the old corrosion sets in

Totally agree, i've spoilt 2 decent reels (7ht mag + slosh30) through having them probably too far down, but it feels alot more comfortable then it further up the rod. They're scratched to bits but still work like new.
