Does anyone know if possible i could get a metal spool for the above as the one i have has the plastic spool
Also was there ever a larger handle ever made or would fit

The reel is old very ild it was my dads grandas he passed away almost 20 years ago in his 80s and never fished for a long time before he died

Its in excellent condition and is very very fast

I could be wrong (it's been known to happen... ) but, from memory, the 604 was the bigger boat version in the 600 series and it had a metal spool.

I seem to remember that the smaller 600, like the 602, had the plastic spool.

I learned multiplier casting on a 602 and its utter lack of any brakes meant you had to develop a very 'educated' thumb to use it, but once you got the trick of it you could cast miles

Can't offer you any more than my not-to-be-relied-upon memory I'm afraid.

    Good luck with it.

It was the 624 that was the boat version but it was a much bigger spool than the 600.

The 600P, 600AP, 602P, and 602AP all had plastic spools and I don't think metal spools were an option. The 622 and 624 boat reels both had metal spools.

Many moons ago I had a 602ap & got a metal spool for it, so I'd imagine they were also available for the larger 600 model.

You're right; the only difference between the P's and the AP's was that the P had one chrome ring around the outer edge of the sideplates and the AP's had two rings, one on the inside edge as well as the outer one.

I'm 53 now and can remember when I was a kid of about 14 or 15; I had been using an Intrepid Fastback and an Intrepid Seastreak on my 12 fibre glass Milbro Reliant rod and had never been able to cast to the other side of the river Blyth from the quayside at the Dun Cow pub. I managed to get my hands on a Mitchell 600AP (the posh one); went down to the quayside to practise casting with it; first cast...........BANG........ the sinker bounced off a crane on the Cambois side. I couldn't reel in quick enough; snipped the sinker off, jumped on my bike and rode home to Cowpen as fast as I could.

You're right mate. I did a quick search on the internet and found a picture of a 600 with a metal spool.
