dunstanburgh castle

Thinking about heading up north on sunday to this mark,never fished here before,can anyone give me any information on best marks,tides to fish...

I always used to go through the castle ruins and out the far side, and follow the cliffs down. Directly behind the castle is a very long drop to the water, so going down the slope makes for an easier life, and deeper water.

I've caught fish on almost every state of the tide; in winter I have had pretty good success with big baits lobbed fifty yards or so northward from the cliffs, while in summer it can be great fun to float fish or spin. I've even fly fished there a time or two which is great fun - a 2lb Pollack or Coalie feels like you're about to go waterskiiing on light tackle

If you don't fancy the walk (it's quite strenuous from Craster to the castle) then there are some good gully marks on the way up. Just keep your eyes open as you walk from Craster towards the castle ruins and you'll see several very fishy looking gullies on your way up, not too far from Craster.

If you're a really lazy hack, the port at Craster can fish quite well too, or if you head south there are a few great holes.

You're spoiled for choice up there really - you can fish from either of the jetties or head north or south from Craster and be into deep water (in a manner of speaking ) at several points within easy walking distance.

If you are dead set on the castle cliffs you should take a mate or two; it's no place to fish alone in bad weather.
