has any body had a strange catch or got to excited over a bite i was fishing the groyne about 30 years ago and got a super bite i struck and it nearly pulled the rod out of my hands (fibertube les moncreffe) my pride and joy. i gained a few yards of line the clutch on my penn squider started to slip i started to pump it in i got it in to the side by now a big crowed had gathered peple were guessing what weight it could be my mate started to hand ball it up a length of cast iton downcomer broke the surface my hook was stuck in a sea urchin stuck to the pipe was my face red the downcomer was rolling about in the tide and it felt like a big fish fighting

last year on the 7 stars jetty with our lass and son.we were fishing for coalies with the light gear so i was just dropping over the side.kept getting bites and was reeling something in really heavy when the light went light thought it must of been a big crab.baited back up dropped down same again something tugging on the line started reeling in really heavy again this time hook had a good hold i could feel it flapping about in the water had my rod bent double when it finally hit surface it was a bloody big lobster.went back the next week trying to catch another lobby hooked into something heavy told the son its another lobster by then i had a few people around kept reeling it in it was super heavy thought it must be a monster finally reached the surface everyone started laughing it was one of those adjustable ally rodstands must of fallen in and when the tube legs were filled with water it was a ton weight.

Me and Ken Robinson were fishing bellow the cannons at Eyemouth many years ago, directly bellow where they used to dump all the crab shells over the cliftop. Ken had walked away from his rod left on the rod stand, when the but of his rod lifted off the ground and was on it's way to the water. I shouted Kennnnnnnn...... he ran and picked his rod up, (fastest I've ever seen him move) and just hung on as his line zinging tight through the water, having to walk with it to avoid whatever he'd hooked into snapping his line. His rod now bent right over, lowered the rod and the line eventually snapped, which would have been 40lb BS in those days. Could only guess that a very large conger had picked up his crab bait and probably didn't even know it was hooked.

there would probably be a lot less kids in care and teenage pregnancies if the youth of today took a leaf out of there book and used seagulls wellies

fished the heugh one night, pitch black and the sea was dead calm suddenly my rod tip sort of bent over then twanged back then the rod started to move side ways almost tipping my rod rest over, i struck, at first i thought i was on the bottom but it started to come towards me pulling it in with my rod bent double then winding in the slack, got a biggy on here i thought to myself by then there was a bit of a crowd round me giving me encouragement, anyway as i was pulling it in thinking about the write ups in the fishing press for the monster cod cought of the heugh by me out of the blackness a pallet materialised i had hooked a f###ing pallet, how god only knows, the crowd ****ed themselfs i even had to drag it round to the steps so i could get my hook out of the wood, total embarasment.
