What would be the best reel to go with the above rod? Fs or Baitcaster? I'm wanting to try lure fishing with crankbaits/Plugs but don't have a clue.

I have a greys bze 3-5oz rod and prefer a small abu multiplier but i am also going to buy the lighter 1-3 oz rod which is more on par with the rod you have. For this rod i will be using a fixed spool reel with braid. It is easier to detect bites when touch ledgering for bass and flatties. You will also be more in control if you are going to use lures. Whatever you decide I would say that you should be using braid ( with a fluro leader with lures ).

I have a similar rod and i use a fixed spool,ive tried it with a multi and couldnt get away with it,i find it easier to flick a 1-2oz weight out with a fixed spool than with a multi.A fixed spool also covers all aspects of what your going to use it for...ie..spinning,lures,float fishing and ledgering

Good point,i also use 50lb braid with a 30lb fluro leader.

These are absolutely cracking rods ! They were originally ringed for a multiplier and designed estuary or light beach rods and are easily capable of putting a 4 oz lead over 150 yds.

The tip action is a little stiff so for plugs a good quality fixed spool with a small diameter but long spool (if the rings are still original) would be a good combination and I wouldn't go past a Shimano reel.

Hi Dan, I have that same rod and I use a Shimano 6010 Aero GT they are brilliant together. Perfect match IMO.

Good rods, use my bass rod with a Abu 6500 for a bit of light beach work or fixed spool, either mono or braid for flattying or floating off rocks etc.

If you can still pick up a Shakespeare Salt Flattie for £30 have a look for a bit of heavier spinning or plugging. Got one this year for a bit of rock work and it's a quality rod.
