        what line are you using ? i tried that sakuma nite crystal kept doing the same thing cast it and seemed to stop mid air and nest.changed the line for ultima 18lb f1 never had anymore trouble.

          Another contributing factor could be if you are casting into the wind. Untill you get used to the reel, tighten up the spool tensioning knob on the side of the reel till your sinker won't drop down with the spool out of gear, slowly turn the knob untill the sinker drops at a controld speed, and that should sort the problem out as long as you are casting smooth enough.
